Moon Days & Why We Rest

In the Ashtanga Yoga tradition, we observe rest days on the full moon and new moon. These “moon days” are natural times to pause. Our energy tends to be more unstable during these lunar phases, and skipping practice helps prevent injury, encourages internal reflection, and supports long-term sustainability in the method.

At Ashtanga Yoga Great Barrington, we will not hold Mysore classes on the following moon days:

Upcoming Moon Days (2025):

  • Wednesday, June 11 – Full Moon

  • Wednesday, June 25 – New Moon

  • Thursday, July 10 – Full Moon

  • Thursday, July 24 – New Moon

  • Friday, August 8 – Full Moon

  • Friday, August 22 – New Moon

  • Sunday, September 7 – Full Moon

  • Sunday, September 21 – New Moon

  • Tuesday, October 21 – New Moon

  • Thursday, November 6 – Full Moon

  • Thursday, November 20 – New Moon

  • Friday, December 5 – Full Moon

Take these days to rest, reflect, or sit quietly with your breath.
